As our annotation-free whole-slide AI training approach got accepted by Nature Communications earlier this year, aetherAI dives even deeper and further applies the new approach in identifying nodal micrometastasis in colorectal cancer. The results were published in one of the highest ranked pathology journals - Modern Pathology.
Our results demonstrate for the first time that micrometastasis could be detected by deep learning on whole-slide images without manual annotation. Our algorithm performed well in detecting both macrometastasis (AUC = 0.9993) and micrometastasis (AUC = 0.9956). We believe this new approach is paving the way for high-performance deep learning algorithms development for pathology.
